I built the go cart from parts supplied by www.Aeroglass.com   The fiberglass body is coated with red gel coat and is of very high quality.  We use the go cart for parades and hot rod shows.  It features a 6hp Tecumseh electric start overhead valve engine with a Torq-A-Verter variable transmission which actually provides underdrive and overdrive gearing.  An adjustable centrifugal clutch gets things going.  The engine puts out both AC and DC electric power.  The AC power provides the current for the two 50 watt halogen headlights which are very effective at night.  The DC power fires 5 white strobe lights that look like lightning at night cruises.  Top speed is about 30mph and is about as fast as you want to go while sitting on the roof of a go cart!  I took off the brakes since the engine torque slows the cart down enough when you get off the twist grip throttle.  Starting power is provided by a small motorcycle battery and electric starter.  Just in case, though, the rope pull starter can also start the cart.  Future improvements will include tubbing the rear end with lighter wheels and wide slicks.  The underside of the body is insulated so that no heat migrates upward to the rider.  I made my own windshield frame out of thin sheet aluminum and painted the front and rear windows onto the fiberglass body.

The go cart is probably the most undignified vehicle a person could ride in or on.   That's why I enjoyed riding on it so much when I was the Mayor of Whittier!
